Maggie Carpenter is ready for a change— and to leave her ordinary life in South Carolina behind. But when she accepts a scholarship to the International School in London, a university attended by the privileged offspring of diplomats and world leaders, Maggie might get more than she bargained for.

When Maggie meets Hugh, a twentysomething British guy, she finds herself living the life she always wanted. Suddenly she’s riding around the city in a Ferrari, wearing borrowed designer clothes and going to the hottest clubs. The only problem? Another guy, the one she can’t seem to keep her hands off of.

Half French, half Lebanese, and ridiculously wealthy, Samir Khouri has made it clear he doesn’t do relationships. He’s the opposite of everything Maggie thought she wanted…and he’s everything she can’t resist. Torn between her dream guy and the boy haunting her dreams, Maggie has to fight for her own happy ending. In a city like London, you never know where you stand, and everything can change in the blink of an eye.
So this is definitely one of those instances where you should not judge a book by it's cover.  I hate this cover but I absolutely adore what's between the pages.  I See London is a fabulous new adult novel that exceeded all my expectations.

To be honest, I didn't really have many expectations when I started I See London.  I was just looking for a quick, fun read and I thought this one might be good.  It was.  I'm quickly becoming a fan of the new adult genre and it's all because of books like I See London.  The characters, the setting, the story, and the writing were all wonderful.

The characters in I See London greatly surprised me.  Maggie started off very closed off and almost a little too perfect.  She was very much a goodie two shoes.  That quickly changed with the help of her new friends.  Mya, Fleur, Samir, and everyone she met helped her come out of her shell and really grow as a person.  By the end of the book she was definitely someone I could see myself being friends with.  She wasn't the only character that surprised me though.  Every character in the book was a lot deeper than they originally appeared (except maybe Hugh.)   Fleur was not such a cold hearted bitch, Mya wasn't so perfect, Samir had a heart under his playboy exterior, etc.  Chanel Cleeton did a great job developing each and every character.

The romance was obviously a huge part of the story and it did not disappoint.  Samir and Maggie have undeniable chemistry from the start but that's not all they have.  They quickly develop a very real friendship.  They have a lot more in common than they originally think and even though they bicker like an old married couple, they really do make great friends.  The banter between the two of them was adorable.  Hugh was also a good match for Maggie but I honestly didn't see anything that spectacular about him.  Their relationship seemed only skin deep.

There were a few flaws with I See London though.  I think the biggest flaw had to be how unrealistic and overdramatic it was.  I really couldn't believe some of the things that happened to Maggie and her friends.  It seemed like some things were blown way out of proportion.  I won't bring up specific examples because I don't want to spoil anything but there were a few very obvious instances where this happened.

Overall, I See London was a very fun read.  I look forward to continuing Maggie and Samir's story in London Falling.

A wine country native, K.F. Breene moved to San Francisco for college just shy of a decade ago to pursue a lifelong interest in film. As she settled into the vibrant city, it quickly became apparent that, while she thought making and editing films was great fun, she lacked cinematic genius. For that reason, her career path quickly changed direction. Her next goal was a strange childhood interest, conjured at the dining room table while filling out a form. For some reason, her young self wanted to be an accountant. Thinking on it now, she often wonders how she had any friends. Regardless, it was the direction she finally took.

While she could wrangle numbers with the best of 'em, and even though she wore the crown as the most outspoken, belligerent accountant in the world, her mind got as stuffy as her daily routine. It was here that she dusted off her creative hat and began writing. Now she makes movies in her head, not worried about lighting, shutter speed or editing equipment. Turns out, a computer is much easier to manage than a crowd of actors. She should know, she was an actor at one time.

If you play with fire…

Tossed out of college and cut off by her parents, Samantha West is in pretty dire straits. So when her rocker best friend hooks her up with a job dancing at a gentlemen’s club, who is she to turn it down? Plus, there are rules to dancing at Benny’s: No touching, keep your clothes on at all times, and never get closer than three feet. Unfortunately for Sam, her first private client makes her want to break every single one of them.

Harrison Yates is scorching hot, but he’s got a past that involves being left at the altar not too long ago. Sam is determined to make him forget about his ex, but when she makes her move, it flings her life into a spiral of chaos she never saw coming.

Because Harrison Yates isn’t who he seems to be. And his secret will probably get her killed.
I wasn’t sure it was possible but A Little Too Hot is my new favorite book in the A Little Too Far series. Sam and Harrison’s story is by far the steamiest yet and I was hooked from the first page.

Sam was not even close to my favorite character in A Little Too Far. I really didn’t feel much of anything for her. Sure, I felt bad when things went down with Trent and Lexie but I didn’t care enough about her to really want to know more about what happened to her after all of that. That all changed once I started reading A Little Too Hot. She seemed a little whiny at first but she quickly grew on me. She was very easy to relate to and I couldn’t help but like her. Things got even better when Harrison entered the picture. He and Sam had some serious chemistry and I was rooting for them from the very first time they met.

The story in A Little Too Hot was the most fast-paced and intense of the series. I had no clue what the book was about when I started it but I was pleasantly surprised. I don’t want to give anything away but the story is really suspenseful and there are some seriously high stakes this time around. Sam and Harrison don’t just have to deal with the complications of their relationship; they also have to deal with some life and death situations. It was intense and by the end of the book I had bitten my nails down to the cuticles.

The romance was scorching, just like I’ve come to expect from Lisa Desrochers. Sam and Harrison had a sort of forbidden romance but that didn’t really slow things down for them. Really it just made things even hotter. The best thing about Sam and Harrison’s relationship though was that they could keep things going even when they weren’t hooking up. They were able to carry a conversation and do things that didn’t involve sex. Their relationship developed almost naturally even in their difficult situation.

Overall, A Little Too Hot was a fabulous ending to the A Little Too Far trilogy and I loved the cameos from the previous two books. If you haven’t started this trilogy yet, get on it!

This book contains...sex.

*Got for free on Amazon Kindle

Honestly, I don't know where to begin my review, probably because I have so many mixed emotions about the book. The main thing is that for a vampire story, I expected a lot more vampiric action. The first half dragged a bit, focusing on raging desire instead of establishing why this was a fantasy book to begin with. The story had so much potential to be great, but sadly it didn't give me the fireworks...oh, I should add there was plenty going on between the sheets of the main characters so if you're sensitive to intimacy on overload then you might want to pass on this one.

There were good points to Awakened, like Sera's roommate Kathleen, and Liam's friends Mike and Jack. I felt like I didn't get to develop a connection with Doug, Danielle, or David: the 3 Ds. As for Sera and Liam, I'm iffy. While I did like them in the beginning chapters, I got put off the more I read. There were times I was utterly annoyed by Sera and felt she should relax some of her dramatic reactions. Where Liam's concerned, I would think he was crazy just like Kathleen with the way he acted. I can understand the whole soulmate thing and having an intense need to protect and mark the one you love, but wow, he freaked me out...a lot.

The story wasn't bad.I liked the writing, and yes, even how descriptive the heated scenes were, I just wish it could have been more fantasy aspect from start, and I wish I could have connected more with Sera and Liam. Even their romance didn't pull me in. It's suppose to be instant in their case, but it just couldn't convince me. Still, I'd like to give the series a chance, with the hopes it'll improve on the intrigue and get me hooked.

DNF Review: Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein

book cover of Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein
Title: Sneaking Candy
Author: Lisa Burstein
Release date: December 9, 2013
Publisher: Entangled Embrace
Source: Netgalley
Reading level: NA
All I ever wanted was to make a name for myself as Candice Salinas, creative writing grad student at the University of Miami. Of course, secretly I already have made a name for myself: as Candy Sloane, self-published erotic romance writer. Though thrilled that my books are selling and I have actual fans, if anyone at UM found out, I could lose my scholarship…and the respect of my faculty advisor, grade-A-asshole Professor Dylan.

Enter James Walker, super-hot local barista and—surprise!—my student. Even though I know a relationship is totally off-limits, I can’t stop myself from sneaking around with James, taking a few cues from my own erotic writing…if you catch my drift. Candy’s showing her stripes for the first time in my real life, and I’ve never had so much fun. But when the sugar high fades, can my secrets stay under wraps?
Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein was an impulse request on Netgalley and I quickly came to regret that request. I knew right from the start that Sneaking Candy was not going to be a book for me but I made myself stick it out for a while and see how it went.

Candice (Candy) is an erotica writer as well as a creative writing grad student. She sells her erotica work to make money to pay for her schooling but she hides her erotica career from everyone because she’s embarrassed by it. Things work for her until she meets James who is not only her love interest but also her student. Oops. That part reminded me a bit of Losing It but it was not done nearly as well this time. Candice went to dinner with James knowing he was her student, got drunk, blacked out, and had sex with him. Classy. Really, that was where the book totally lost all interest to me. I gave up after that.

Overall, Sneaking Candy did nothing for me. The characters, the writing, the story, it was mediocre at best. I gave up about 30% through and I don’t regret that at all. I’d say pass on this one.

What others are saying about Sneaking Candy:

Harlequin Junkie's review: "Overall, Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein is a fun story with a lovable heroine and an interesting story which keeps you hooked throughout."

Writing My Own Fairy Tale's review: "Sneaking Candy is adorable and sexy and fun."

Actin' Up With Books' review: " If you are looking for something funny, fresh, smart, and sexy, then this is the book for you!"

New Adult on the Block: A Little Too Hot by Lisa Desrochers

If you play with fire…

Tossed out of college and cut off by her parents, Samantha West is in pretty dire straits. So when her rocker best friend hooks her up with a job dancing at a gentlemen’s club, who is she to turn it down? Plus, there are rules to dancing at Benny’s: No touching, keep your clothes on at all times, and never get closer than three feet. Because Harrison Yates isn’t who he seems to be. And his secret will probably get her killed.

I'm an unabashed, long time fan of Lisa's.  And I've said before that her writing New Adult is like the greatest thing ever. But what I really love is that her plots aren't predictable. She always takes these "cliche" elements and does something unique and wonderful with them. They're presented in a way I don't see coming.

To add to that not seeing things coming, I also never read the description for this. I knew I was just going to want it, so why bother? MYSTERY GUYS. It did increase my "What's going on?" factor a bit. Obviously, it's a bit late for you but...you know. We tried.

I adored Samantha and the relatable path she was on and loved watching her grow. She really was just trying to figure out who she was and where she wanted to go and I loved that. And she had these friendships that were questionable, which made them realistic. Friends aren't always all good or all bad and the ones she had reflected all the colors of the friendship rainbow.

On top of that, there's Harrison, who was just all kinds of fabulous. Like...I want to describe him, but don't want to spoil things. But he's good to Samantha and he's good for her and it's the little things guys. And the chemistry. Oh the chemistry. Harrison gives good chemistry guys. Really, really good. Especially to Samantha.

Lisa's writing is, yet again, utterly enthralling. I stayed up WAY too late reading this. It actually might have been one of the nights where I didn't get to bed until 6 am and I also think it was one of the days I had to get up at a decent hour. So, I lost a lot of sleep over this book and had zero regrets about it. And I loves my sleep.

Basically, whenever Lisa's writing a book, you can expect sexiness, incredible writing, and a plot line turned on its head. And with every book, she finds some way to improve and I don't even know HOW at this point, but at this rate, her next book will make me implode from pure phenomenal-ness.

If you need some more convincing, you can read the first three chapters here:

Now that you're convinced, you should go pre-order it. And when you do that, you get an extra chapter told from Harrison's perspective. Just pre-order on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or iBooks, then submit your link here.

Te succomber

Couverture Te succomber
Te succomber
de Jasinda Wilder
Editeur : Michel Lafon
Broché : 339 pages
Prix : 15.95 €

L'auteur a réussi à me faire sourire et pleurer.
