At some point, I will say I'm going to be better about doing these and actually mean it.

I got ARCs of both of these from my office because Ksenia is wonderful. I've already ready both and will probably put up my thoughts on these over the summer.

For School:
Friends with Boys by Faith Erin Hicks (This is actually for a class I'm not taking on Children's Publishing [I was going to take it, but had to redo my schedule] but since I have money I can only spend at my school's bookstore and a lot of people wouldn't buy it there, I grabbed one.)

Something Real by Heather Demetrios (hardcover purchased at launch party at PowerHouse Books)

Otherwise Acquired:
A Long Way from You by Gwendolyn Heasley (ARC from Gaby)
Where I Belong by Gwendolyn Heasley (ARC from Gaby)
Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong by Faith Erin Hicks (Roommate saw I'd gotten Friends with Boys and then shoved this one at me to borrow)

Also, here's my shelf of books from ALA Midwinter if you missed those.

Hi, my name is Julie and I have a problem. (There's actually two more unsolicited review books but I can't muster up the energy to go look up titles/authors, so they'll have to wait.)

So, yeah. Someday, I'll learn my lesson. And stop acquiring books. But I have already read 7.5 of these, so it feels less awful that way, right? Plus, all my extra subway time = more ebook reading time, which has been lacking a lot in the past couple months. But where do I begin?

Lanna:
So, I actually intended to post way more reviews and stuff these past few weeks but then some bad stuff happened and I couldn't focus on reading, but I'm halfway through one of the books in this haul so I should have a review up for that soon. And I should also just shut up and get on with the whole book haul thing...

For review:
Slow Twitch and Junk Miles by Liz Reinhardt - These sound good, but it'll be a while before I can review them because I don't own the first book yet.
A Breath of Frost by Alyxandra Harvey
When Mr Dog Bites by Brian Conaghan - Not one I would've picked up on my own, but it sounds interesting.

Bought for Christmas:
Attachments by Rainbow Rowell
Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone by Kat Rosenfield - Love this so far.
The Train by Diane Hoh - Because I was still feeling nostalgic for Point Horror books.
I got A Little Too Far by Lisa Desrochers too (Julie's fault) but it hasn't arrived yet.

And I got these too...

S. by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst - I will fangirl over this one a little more below with more pictures...
Maus by Art Spiegelman - I finally caved after seeing so many great reviews

Kindle books:
Tangled by Em Wolf - I'm so glad she published this, I've read a few versions of it over the years on fictionpress and livejournal. I hope she decides to make physical copies available too.
Picture Perfect by Alessandra Thomas - Saw recommended on twitter and it's free on Kindle right now.
How to Date a Nerd by Cassie Mae - Got since I enjoyed Switched
The Most to Lose by Laura Landon
Charming the Prince by Teresa Medeiros

Now, for the S. fangirling:
S. really is one of the most creative and aesthetically pleasing books I've seen in ages. It's in a slip case and the book is designed as if it's an old library book (aged pages and all) with two people having a conversation in the margins (so there's two stories--the novel itself, and the story of the readers), and it has napkins with writing on them and articles and post cards and stuff inside and it's just...dflvjndlvj! Even if the story sucks, I won't regret getting it because of how well designed and original it is:

What'd you guys get for Christmas? Any good books/book-ish things? I hope you all had a lovely Christmas/New Year. :)

-Lanna

Book Haul (164)

Lanna:

The Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale - Because I was craving something Ella Enchated-ish and this showed up in the recommendations?

I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella - Recommended by a youtuber, and I've never read anything by Sophie Kinsella.

Grave Matters by Jana Oliver - a novella set after the Demon Trappers series (available in e-book, or in installments on her blog, which is where the link will take you).

That Summer by Sarah Dessen - I've always wanted to read this one, because I've seen How to Deal (a movie based on a mash-up of That Summer and Someone Like You--I've read the latter but not the other).

Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente - This is one of those ones I've been wanting to get for ages but for some reason I kept putting it off and I'm not sure why.

The Mall by Richie Tankersley Cusick - Because I was feeling nostalgic.

Me and Earl and The Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews - Caved to the hype. Everyone seems to recommend this, so I hope it's as good as they're all saying.

And I got one or two e-books for review and bought a few, but I'm kind of half asleep right now so I'll look them up and include those in my next book haul post instead. Read any of the books mentioned? What've you been reading? :)

Later.

Julie:

Welp...things happen sometimes guys. Like Black Friday sales.

Dreaming of Mr. Darcy by Victoria Connelly - I apparently have books 1 and 3 in this companion series, so I figured I'd grab this while it was $1.99 [still on sale on Amazon]

No Good Duke Goes Unpunished by Sarah MacLean - I LOVE Sarah's books and it was like $5 to pre-order a finished copy, so I had it sent to my parents' house for some post-Thanksgiving enjoyment. Not my favorite of hers, but highly enjoyable. And that ENDING.

Lord and Lady Spy by Shana Galen - Another Black Friday, $1.99 steal.

Also Known As by Robin Benway - I've heard nothing but glowing things about this one and again, Black Friday FTW [still on sale on Amazon]

Compulsively Mr. Darcy by Nina Benneton  - Sourcebooks was having a huge sale and they have a lot of these Pride and Prejudice retellings (like the first one listed)...so I took advantage. [still on sale on Amazon]

The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy by Sara Angelini - Yup. [still on sale on Amazon]

Speak Easy by Melanie Harlow - New Adult in the 1920s and it's currently free. I couldn't say no.

The Queen's Choice by Cayla Kluver - I really liked Cayla's other series (though I don't think I ever finished it), so I wanted to check out this one when I saw it on Netgalley.

The Last Best Kiss by Claire LaZebnik - Claire rights the most adorable Austen retellings and this one is Persuasion, which is another one that deserves more love. HAD to grab it from Edelweiss

The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings - I've been following Lindsay for a long time and I beta read a different manuscript of hers, so I'm curious about this one and instantly grabbed it from Edelweiss.

Somewhere in France by Jennifer Robson - It's not mentioned anywhere, but it sounded rather Downton Abbey-esque to me, so I requested it from Edelweiss.

Going Over by Beth Kephart - The Cold War fascinates me and this story of forbidden love due to the wall sounds incredible. I've also been meaning to read Beth Kephart forEVER, so finding this on Edelweiss was perfect.

The Falconer by Elizabeth May - This one sounds so badass and it's been on my wishlist for ages, so I had to request it from Edelweiss.

Bright Before Sunrise by Tiffany Schmidt - I've heard nothing but raves about Tiffany's first book and I've met her a couple times and know that she's awesome and I LOVE the premise of most of this book happening in the course of one night. Had to grab this one from Netgalley!

Undressing Mr. Darcy by Karen Doornebos  - It was late and it was available for instant download on Netgalley and I couldn't not do this.

I mean...sometimes things happen guys. They just happen.

Book Haul (163)

Lanna:
So, I've kind of been MIA for most of November (partly because of NaNoWriMo, partly because of procrastination, but mostly because I've not been reading that much), but I should have some reviews and stuff up next week and until then, here's a book haul...

Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia and Wallbanger by Alice Clayton - Now, I'm kind of against pulled-to-publish fanfiction, but I finally caved and bought these. I read both as fanfics and they were two of the ones I remember actually been good enough to be published (but then, I was judging them by fanfic standards then, perhaps that opinion will change once I read these versions).

Cold Spell by Jackson Pearce - I'm not a huge fan of Jacksons books, but I've been dying to read this one because I adore The Snow Queen (I really wish there were more retellings of it).

Dreaming of Amelia by Jaclyn Moriarty - Fourth in an awesome series (more companions than direct sequels). I think this one is also known as The Ghosts of Ashbury High?

The Back Door of Midnight by Elizabeth Chandler - I think this is the 5th and final book in the Dark Secrets series (companion novels, all set in the same town but can be read in any order).

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown - I can't remember why I got this one, I think maybe I just saw some good reviews of it or something.

And Then She Fell and Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue by Stephanie Laurens - These are part of her Cynster series, but it's a really long series so I just picked these two to start with (I think And Then She Fell is the first in a duology while the other is the first in a trilogy about sisters related to the characters in the rest of the series? Something along those lines).

Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean - Julie recommended this series ages ago, and seeing as I seem to have a new found love for regency romance I thought I'd check it out.

I also got the e-book of Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, which I saw in a youtube book haul, I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not so thought I'd get the e-book first.

And I think that's all I got, have you read any of them? What've you been reading?

Later.

Julie:

Look at me, posting another book haul in a respectable amount of time!

eBooks:
How to Lose a Bride in One Night by Sophie Jordan (purchased for Kindle) [This was in sale and then I needed a romance read anyway...so already devoured this one. It's, obviously, fantastic.]
Defy by Sara B. Larson (egalley from Netgalley)
Beautiful Beginning by Christina Lauren (purchased for Kindle) [Read as soon as midnight arrived and guys, really, GET ON THIS SERIES.]
A Creature of Moonlight by Rebecca Hahn (egalley from Edelweiss)

Physical Books:
The Last Days of the Romanovs by Helen Rappaport
The Vow by Jessica Martinez
Real by Katy Evans
Imperfect Bliss by Susan Fales-Hill
Cold Spell by Jackson Pearce

The first four I bought for myself at Strand on Friday because it was my birthday and I'd gotten some money from family and...I could. I've been trying to restrain book buying lately (the two ebooks I bought? Either all or partially covered by a gift card), so it was kind of a treat to myself in general. Cold Spell I got from the publisher's HipScout program, but because of a shipping mix up, I got this a month later and a hardcover instead of an ARC.

So...yeah. What books have you guys gotten recently?
